Y Chhe Group, in partnership with TK Central and KLATFORM, seeks innovative architectural design ideas for the sala samnak ( rest house/pavilion).
By joining this competition candidates will have the opportunity to learn, create and connect throughout their creative design idea.
Overview
In Cambodia, the Sala Samnak is a traditional rest pavilion that beautifully bridges cultural heritage with community care. Rather than serving as simple shelters, these pavilions represent the deeply rooted Khmer values of generosity and hospitality, acting as essential gathering points in village centers and along pilgrimage trails.
In this competition, you will demonstrate your full potential by reinterpreting the traditional rest house as a communal node for daily pedestrians, prioritizing the traveler through responsive design.

The project site is located at SISOWATH RIVERSIDE park.
The site is located within the demarcated area in Sisowath Riverside Park.Proposals should blend community welfare into the riverside landscape, delivering an experiential pavilion that respects and reflects Cambodian heritage.

- Participants must be currently studying and based in Phnom Penh.
- Architects, urban planners, and designers of all backgrounds are encouraged to participate in this competition.
- Applicants must collaborate in groups between 3 to 5 people.
- Groups must be gender inclusive, must have at least one male and one female member.
- All work entries must display a great degree of innovation and originality with no copyright issue.
